The Washington Examiner is pleased to announce that it has hired Kimberly Leonard as Senior Health Care Policy Reporter.
Her first day at the Washington Examiner will be Monday, April 3, and her work will be an important part of the publication’s content online, in print, and in its growing suite of newsletters.
Before joining the Washington Examiner, Kimberly was a senior writer on health care for U.S. News & World Report, where she covered the Affordable Care Act, the medical industry, clinical trials, and social issues in medicine.
Kimberly won the 2015 American Osteopathic Award for Excellence in Health Journalism, and the 2016 Newsmaker of the Year award from the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, and she was a 2014 AHCJ-National Library of Medicine Fellow.
She has an abundance of multimedia experience that includes stints at Vogue, the Huffington Post Investigative Fund, and Stateline.org.
Her work has been published in the Washington Post, the Atlantic, and Kaiser Health News. She has also worked at the Center for Public Integrity, where her interactive report on harmful chemicals in oil refineries was part of a package that won the 2011 Thomas L. Stokes Award for Best Energy Writing from the National Press Foundation.
“I’m looking forward to beginning the next chapter in my journalism career and to continuing to contribute reporting on a variety of health care reform topics,” Kimberly says, “particularly as the country is facing a critical juncture with massive implications for the American people. I hope to provide readers not only with insight into the political battles over health care reform but also to provide context for how proposed policy could have an impact on their lives and the lives of their loved ones.”
Washington Examiner’s editorial director Hugo Gurdon, described Kimberly as a “superb journalist with fine news judgment, and she’s a great fit for us as we strengthen and accelerate our coverage of policy. Kimberly is one of several new hires coming to Washington Examiner in the next few months, and she’s an excellent one.”
Kimberly is a graduate of the University of Richmond, where she majored in urban practice and policy and minored in journalism. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband, Jesse Snyder, an analyst at Federal Advisory Partners.
