For Immediate Release
November 29, 2016
Carney is one of the most influential journalists in Washington, renowned for his insights on the intersection of politics, economics, and business. He is also a visiting Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
Gurdon said, “Tim is taking command of the commentary team in Washington to coincide with the arrival of a Trump administration and the new Congress. He is a great journalist and will bring an energy and skill set that will help Washington Examiner engage more fully with decision makers whom voters have put in place for at least the next two and four years. Tim has been a marquee columnist for several years, but I am delighted he has agreed to take on this new challenge.”
Gurdon also praised David Freddoso, the current Commentary Editor, who will become a senior columnist and will remain a vital part of Washington Examiner’s commentary team. Gurdon said, “David is a wonderful writer of thoroughly reported commentary, and it is great that he will now be able to produce more bylined pieces for us. He will contribute several times a day to the Beltway Confidential blog, and will also write columns that will appear online and in our print magazine.”
Carney appears frequently on MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, and Fox Business, and this will increase.
His appointment comes at the same time as the hire of Salena Zito as a full-time political correspondent based in Pittsburgh, and shortly after the hires of Alex Pappas from the Daily Caller, to be Breaking News Editor, and Philip Wegmann, from the Daily Signal to be a commentary blogger. Caitlin Yilek has also been hired as a digital producer from The Hill, and starts today, Nov. 29.
Washington Examiner is expanding rapidly and is now widely regarded as a thought leader in Washington. It will announce new additions to its news room staff and news desk in the next few weeks.
Providing intellectual capital for the nation’s capital, Washington Examiner brings readers excellence in news coverage, reporting and thoughtful commentary. Washington Examiner is published by MediaDC, a subsidiary of Clarity Media.
