Washington Examiner is delighted to announce that veteran defense correspondent Travis Tritten will join its growing newsroom as defense and national security writer, March 28th. He will team up with National Security Reporter Jamie McIntyre and Senior Editor Dave Brown, contributing to Washington Examiner’s website, print magazine, and morning newsletter, Daily On Defense (DOD).
Tritten had covered military issues for Stars and Stripes in Washington, D.C., with a focus on Capitol Hill, including reporting on the defense budget, the 2016 election, and the war against the Islamic State group.
Among other highlights of a 15-year career covering defense, government, and politics, Tritten exclusively exposed former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams’ false claims about his experiences during the Iraq War, and uncovered a military murder plot in the Philippines that resulted in the identification and prosecution of a killer.
Tritten said, “I am truly excited to be working with the talented and energetic team at the Examiner and look forward to breaking big and important defense news.”
Editorial Director Hugo Gurdon said: “It’s great that Travis will soon be part of the Washington Examiner team. He’s a dogged reporter who breaks real news. We are building our national security coverage and Travis will have a vital role to play.”
Senior Writer Jamie McIntyre: “We’re thrilled Travis is coming on board. He has a great reputation as a hungry reporter who can break news on Capitol Hill on issues large and small. Travis’ deep knowledge of the military, his work uncovering a sailor’s murder plot in Japan, and later his investigation into Brian Williams’ Iraq war claims all speak for themselves. We can’t wait for him to be part of the team.”
Tritten lives with his wife and two young children in Virginia, and enjoys playing the guitar in his spare time.
